Happy New Year!

Welcome back!  I hope everyone felt as well

rested and ready for school as I did this

Monday!  I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation but

am feeling ready to get back to the routine!  As

I had mentioned all the way back in September,

once January hits the children are just soaring

in their reading!!  Homework has begun and

they are beginning to be little readers!

Here are some pictures of our morning math

centers this week.  Our current unit is on

measurement which allowed us to use various

objects throughout the week to practice

measuring.  Our previous unit was patterning

so to review we had a patterning center with

Unifix cubes.  We are also counting by 10's.

During our literacy centers we had winter

themed activities!  These involved changing

vowels in words to match the picture,

consonant blends, real and nonsense word

sorts, rhyme matching, silent reading, and

journaling.

Our reading focus this week animal fantasy and

plot.  We read The Mitten by Jan Brett which

also allowed us to sequence the events.  We

used two versions of The Snowy day by Anna

Milbourne and Ezra Jack Keats to compare and

contrast texts.

We had a wonderful week!  Looking forward to

our snowman theme next week!!
