Apple, Apples, and More Apples!

This week we took advantage of the time of season and

learned all about...APPLES!  We took a trip to Brooksby

Farm and had fun picking apples!  On Thursday we made

homemade applesauce...I think I put a little too much

cinnamon in it :(

Our Math Centers in the morning gave us practice in

counting and pattering.  Children practiced counting by

putting "apples" on their trees and matching cubes with dots

on their place.  They also practiced writing numbers with

their apple booklet and pattering with pattern blocks.

Literacy Centers included the ABSeas game to practice

letter recognition, Rhyming puzzles to work on our rhyming

skills, handwriting, and our apple booklets.

Some other things we enjoyed doing this week were

retelling The Three Little Pigs with felt pieces and using

sequencing pictures to recall main events.  We also sang,

The Monkeys and the Alligator which the children have a lot

of fun with!

That's all for now!!  Have a great weekend!

Some Pictures of Our Every Day Routine!

Last week I was not able to take many pictures because I

had lent out my camera and it did not occur to me to use

my cell phone!  I just recently upgraded from an archaic

phone and more often than not forget what it is capable

of!  Therefore,  I took some pictures on Monday of some of

the activities we did last week and here they are!:

These are story telling pieces to help the children retell the

parts of a story and also practice letter recognition for the

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom story.  (Those are my little

nephews feet in the picture, he was following me around

when I was doing this, SO CUTE!)

Sorry this is upside down, we read Farmer Smart's Fat Cat.

The children think this story is hilarious but it is also really

good for talking about modesty and humility.

We fed our Letter Monster foam letters and had to say the

name and the sound as we fed him.
These are our story posters, so far we have learned about

characters and the setting.

That's all for now!  The post for this week will be up shortly

with some more pictures!

All About Me Week

This week we focused a lot on learning about each other.  We

made graphs about our hair color, family size, and talked

about our favorite things.  We also made our "All About Me"

books.  Beginning with just a few centers, we began our

center rotations involving silent reading, pom pom letters,

and our book pages.  Reader's Workshop was introduced

using Kim Adsit's reading approaches (love!) and the

students learned how to treat books with care and how to

properly read during reader's workshop.  Here are a few

pictures for you to enjoy! :)

Welcome to Kindergarten!

We had a great first week in kindergarten!  The children

were fast friends and were so fun to have in class! As

always, the first week seemed to fly by and we did A LOT of

things to get acclimated to the start of the year.  We

worked on things such as rules of the classroom, navigating

through the classroom and the school, manners, and

learning names and a little bit about each other.  All the

children caught on to the routine quite quickly and I am so

happy with all we accomplished this week.  Here are some

pictures from this week...

In this picture, they are working on a picnic plate activity to

decorate the bulletin board in the classroom!

We read David Goes to School by David Shannon to talk

about good behavior in school.  We made a poster and

talked about the difference between peacemakers and

peacebreakers. I got this idea from another teacher's blog

and I think the little David people the kids made came out

so cute!

The board in the hallway is displaying our "First Day of

School" booklets!  Soon I will add an "All About Me" to each

child so we can learn a little more about them!
I am going to take a wild guess and say I think this next

picture displays one of their favorite things we did this

week! During circle time we sang the song "Tooty Ta" and

had fun looking very silly!!

I hope you enjoyed a few pictures of our week!  I can't wait

for more fun things next week!
