Harvest Party Week!

Our harvest party was lot of fun as we celebrated through

festive stations!  We had a fall coloring station, a fall

themed bingo station, a fall snack themed station and my

favorite... a pumpkin hunt station!  At the pumpkin hunt

station they had to go around the room and find matching

pumpkin pictures for beginning letter sounds.

This week we also read, The Old Lady That Was Not Afraid

of Anything! After we read this we talked about what makes

us feel afraid and then completed a scarecrow craft,

putting the pieces together as we went through the story.

And as promised....at home activities for targeted skills...

Alphabet recognition:
  • As you drive in the car play the alphabet game. Choose a letter and whoever finds it first as you're driving wins. Play until you have done all the letters in the alphabet.
  • Find letters in magazines cut them out and glue them in order on construction paper. (take it a step forward by finding accompanying pictures with the same beginning sound.)
  • Use foam, wooden, magnet, or plastic letters and put them in alphabetic order, have child tell you the name and sound of each letter.
Syllables:
  • Clap the names in your family example- philip - phil/ip = 2 syllables
  • Choose other words and clap them out together....use themes: fall words, thanksgiving words...etc.
Rhyming:
  • Say two words have your child do something if they rhyme and something different if they don't, example...frog and log (child does a jumping jack) fox and hat (child puts his finger on his nose).  You can be more fun and creative with what you make them do
  • Make up sentences that the child has to finish. The mouse was running through the _____.
  • Find pictures that rhyme and have child match them.
